On Earth, Gohan has turned the tables on the predator dinosaur that once terrorized him, now regularly slicing off pieces of its tail for meals. His survival skills have improved drastically. In deep space, Vegeta and Nappa make a casual stop at the insectoid planet Arlia to "stretch their legs." They allow themselves to be captured and imprisoned, treating the entire situation as a game.

The Fall of King Moai

In the dungeon, their cellmate Atla explains that the planet was once peaceful until the tyrant King Moai seized power, took Atla's bride Lemlia on their wedding day, and imprisoned all who opposed him. The Saiyans show zero interest in the sad story but plenty of interest in the arena combat Moai uses for entertainment. When brought before the king, Vegeta kills the arena champion Lesoy with a single finger beam before Moai can finish gloating. Nappa annihilates every guard in the fortress with a single explosive burst. The king's last resort, a fifty-foot giant called Yetti, fares no better; Nappa rips off its finger and vaporizes it with a Murder Grenade.

False Heroes

With Moai crushed by his own throne, Atla finds Lemlia alive and hails the Saiyans as liberators. Vegeta and Nappa ignore the gratitude, board their pods, and as a final afterthought, Vegeta fires a blast that destroys Arlia entirely, just as Atla and Lemlia embrace in their freedom.

Arlia serves as a full-length demonstration of what Vegeta and Nappa are capable of and how casually they wield that power. They topple a king, slaughter an army, and destroy a planet without breaking a sweat or showing a moment of genuine concern for anyone involved.

Entertainment, Not Heroism

The cruel irony of this episode is that the Saiyans accidentally liberate an oppressed people while seeking nothing but amusement. Atla's joy and gratitude are completely irrelevant to Vegeta, who blows up the planet simply because he found it annoying. This is what is headed for Earth: warriors who treat entire civilizations as disposable playthings.

This episode exists to terrify the audience before Vegeta and Nappa reach Earth. Every fighter, every army, every monster Arlia could throw at them was demolished in minutes. The destruction of an entire planet on a whim ensures that when these two Saiyans finally land on Earth, viewers understand exactly what the Z Fighters are up against.
