From Law to Music
Johnson studied law at the University of Texas, initially balancing legal practice with music composition. An encounter with FUNimation co-founder Robert Cocanaugher, who happened to be his landlord, led to a meeting that changed his career. He abandoned his law practice to pursue music full-time, ultimately becoming the last in-house Funimation composer before the company discontinued its music division in 2005 due to cost-cutting measures.
