Mallow voiced Oolong, the shape-shifting pig, and Emperor Pilaf in the Harmony Gold English dub of the original Dragon Ball series. His comedic interpretation of Oolong helped establish the character's humorous personality for early English-speaking audiences, while his Emperor Pilaf provided the scheming antagonist's voice during the opening saga. Credited as Colin Philips on some releases, Mallow also served as ADR director for five episodes of the TV series, overseeing dialogue recording and synchronization beyond his voice performance.
Mallow built a career spanning voice acting, narration, and ADR direction across multiple media. Beyond Dragon Ball, he voiced characters in Digimon, Gundam films, and numerous other anime properties. His background in theater and Midwestern radio before moving to Los Angeles in 1984 established a foundation for professional voice work. Mallow passed away in March 2025 at age 76, leaving behind a legacy spanning multiple decades of dubbing and localization work.
