Hinata Sohma

As a newborn in the original series, Hinata is drawn with short hair, big round eyes, and simple baby clothes, sometimes styled into little braided buns. By Fruits Basket Another she has grown into an adult with darker hair worn straight and cropped near the nape, its bangs falling to below her chin and draping mostly over the right side of her face.

The grown Hinata comes across as warm, sociable, and full of energy, an outgoing woman who is easy to like. She also has a carefree, slightly scatterbrained and childish side. Even so, she proves genuinely dependable when it counts, taking her position as one of the older Sohmas seriously; she is trusted to watch over Shiki Sohma during a family trip and will go out of her way for the younger children.

Hinata's arrival is first signaled when Satsuki calls Hiro to tell him she is pregnant, and the baby is born not long after the Sohmas' summer break. Visiting the hospital, Hiro declines his mother's offer to hold the newborn, worried he will transform, but Satsuki reassures him she would simply hug them both. The whole household soon dotes on Hinata as its new darling, and Hiro settles into the role of a reliable big brother. When his curse later breaks while the two are playing together, the first thing he does is scoop her up, and the fact that he stays human confirms the curse is gone; Satsuki joins them in a tearful family embrace.

In Fruits Basket Another, Hinata turns up at the Sohma cottage a day behind everyone else, having driven a queasy Shiki there herself, and fusses over which medicine to give him before introducing herself to Sawa Mitoma. That evening, as the younger ones set off fireworks, a tipsy Hinata mistakes an artificial plant for the sparklers. The family knows her as a notoriously bad driver with a fondness for drinking, and she treats Shiki like a cherished little brother whose happiness she constantly hopes for.
