Zanbai

Baldheaded and light-eyed, Zanbai carries a web of scars over his face and scalp and grows a slim mustache. His usual dress is a black kimono cinched with a white sash.

Portrayed as a fearless fighter loyal to the swordmaster's path, Zanbai earns his son's respect. Shido reckons his father is the sort who would treasure a death in combat and, filling a bodyguard's duty, would rejoice to learn Nichirin had lived.

During the Super Fight Arc, Zanbai attends a Council of Swordmasters gathering where Kamikaze requests aid in hunting down Garou, fearing Bang could fall. Only Haragiri objects, mocking the plea before flaunting the Monster Cells that the Monster Association had given him, then turning into a Mysterious Being; Atomic Samurai cuts him down on the spot. Later, in the Monster Association Arc, Zanbai backs the heroes alongside Amahare, Spring Mustachio, and Nichirin and helps hold off swarms of Black Sperm's copies. When Fuhrer Ugly appears in mutated form, his body sheathed in Gums' stomach acid, and wounds Superalloy Darkshine, Zanbai warns the others against attacking bare-handed and lunges with his blade. Fuhrer Ugly catches the sword, the acid instantly dissolves it, and a spit of acid to the skull kills him. Long after, members of the Council, Shido among them, visit his grave in the G-City mountains; the son has taken up his father's seat, and when Nichirin offers apologies, Shido shrugs them off, saying his father lived and died by the blade, a warrior's honorable end. A formidable swordmaster, Zanbai wields quick reflexes and a one-handed killing strike he calls Peaceful Death.
