Flegel Reeves

Freckles dot Flegel's cheeks beneath short, light-colored hair. He stands noticeably short and carries a somewhat plump build, dressing plainly in a black coat over a white shirt with black trousers. By the year 854 a small beard has grown in beneath his chin.

Pride and a loose tongue shape Flegel's first impressions. He says whatever crosses his mind, joking that Levi Ackerman ought to be serving him tea as a proper host, and he grumbles about Levi's rough treatment of Historia only where the captain cannot hear him. Bravery does not come naturally either; after the Military Police kill his father, terror nearly convinces him to spend the rest of his days in hiding, and only Hange Zoë's pressure moves him to act.

Once committed, though, he shows real nerve. He offers himself as live bait to lure Military Police assassins into Hange's trap, then coaxes his cornered pursuers into admitting the brigade's crimes while half of Trost listens in. That mix of guts and cunning comes paired with his father's sense of loyalty, and Flegel promises that under his leadership the Reeves Company will keep looking after the people of Trost.

Flegel enters the story seated beside his father Dimo as the Reeves Company partners with Levi's squad during the uprising. Waiting in a cave with Eren and Historia, he questions why the company follows Levi at all, then steps outside at the worst possible moment: from behind a tree he watches Kenny Ackerman cut his father down, and he flees into hiding in Trost District.

Hange snatches him off the street and carries him to a rooftop, asking his help in exposing the truth behind Dimo's death. He refuses out of fear, but Hange drags him along regardless. Later, three Military Policemen corner him in a dead-end alley. Facing execution, Flegel demands to know why his father died, draws out an admission of the brigade's guilt, then tells the gunman to look up. Hange and Moblit drop from the building above, and the citizens of Trost emerge as witnesses to everything said. Sitting on a downed policeman's head, Flegel declares himself the company's new boss and vows to protect the district.

On the eve of the operation to retake Wall Maria, a meat purchase from his company tips him off to the plan, and he rallies the citizens into a massive send-off for the Survey Corps, cheering the survivors home afterward. In later years the company funds Shiganshina's reconstruction with military approval, so when the government moves to evacuate the rebuilt district in 854, an enraged Flegel confronts Hange from within an angry mob outside headquarters and gets no answer. Three years after the Rumbling, he watches a Yeagerist ceremony alongside Roy and Peaure.
