Varis

In human form Varis presents as unremarkable, medium in both height and build, aside from a noticeably prominent chin. His short, light hair splits down a center part. On Paradis he wears the regular Survey Corps uniform, exchanging it for the Corps' darker field version during the Liberio operation.

Trust earned through service defines Varis's standing: he is one of the few soldiers considered reliable enough to help Levi Ackerman watch over Zeke Yeager, and the wave of defections to the Yeagerists never pulls him away from his superiors. He is no ascetic, though. Alongside the other guards he lobbies Levi for permission to open the wine confiscated from Marleyan ships, a small indulgence that ends up costing him everything.

Varis fights in the raid on Liberio, and aboard the airship afterward he is among the soldiers who hold Eren Yeager at gunpoint while Levi disciplines him with a beating. He is later assigned to the detail guarding Zeke in a Titan Forest far from any settlement, where the guards persuade Levi to let them drink the seized Marleyan wine.

A month into the assignment, word reaches Varis that Eren now heads a terrorist cell, that its members have murdered Darius Zackly, and that they demand to be led to Zeke, and that Dot Pixis intends to seize Eren while the group is still traveling. He carries the news to Levi, who decides instead to have Zeke eaten so the threat of his power passes to safer hands. Varis protests but is ordered to relay the decision to Pixis. Before he can leave, Zeke screams, activating the spinal fluid laced into the wine, and Varis and every guard except Levi transform into Pure Titans. Compelled to kill the captain, all of them are swiftly cut down. Watching Varis's Titan come at him, Levi wonders whether any awareness survives inside it and regrets having to end him.
