Episode Two: The Original Sketches

This draft continues Isayama's pitch for the series from the first sketch chapter's cliffhanger, covering material the published manga reshaped, with changes, into chapters 3 and 4, Night of the Disbanding Ceremony and First Battle. Its signature line belongs to Bertolt, who reports that the Colossus Titan let out a tremendous burst of steam and vanished like a candle snuffing itself out, an account of events that happens to be technically true.

The cast roster features Eren, Mikasa, Armin, Hannes, and fellow recruits including Connie, Sasha, Jean, Franz, and Dora dealing with the fallout of the Colossus Titan's attack, alongside flashbacks to Grisha and the three robbers. Notably, the draft's character listing marks Reiner among the killed, a fate the serialized story never dealt him at this point.

Bertolt describes the Colossus Titan's disappearance in a blast of steam, wording the draft frames as technically correct.

The recruits move from the immediate aftermath of the breach into the story beats the manga would split across its third and fourth chapters.

The 40-page sketch was first published in Japanese within Attack on Titan: Beginning on June 9, 2021, and reached English readers on November 22, 2022 in the second volume of The Best of Attack on Titan: In Color. It follows Episode One: The Original Sketches and closes out the surviving pair of pitch chapters. Despite the "Episode" naming, both are chapter drafts, not anime episodes.
