Jerome

Black hair and blue eyes mark this knight of the sacred order. His heart belongs to the prostitute Luca, whom he hopes one day to bring into his own household.

Despite his uniform, Jerome carries little of the zealotry his order demands. In private he confesses he dislikes the work and has no patience for Farnese's conduct or her thin skills. He kept up regular visits to Luca long before nightfall, paying for her company yet dreaming of taking her home once his service ended. By his own admission he runs his mouth without weighing how his words land on others. Comfortable and complacent by habit, he is rattled to the core by what unfolds at Albion, and it hardens into a decision to break with the Knights so that he can keep Luca safe.

He enters the story in bed with Luca, a moment ruined when the wandering Elaine, in truth Casca, appears and leaves him unnerved. He voices his distaste for the heretic hunts, settles his bill with Luca in full, gifts her a pearl necklace, and promises her a spot as his mistress even though his line expects him to wed a noblewoman. He even arranges a competent doctor for Luca's supposed sister. A later conversation with Serpico circles back to his contempt for Farnese, and after watching the order's executions he takes in the story behind Farnese and Serpico, coming to see Serpico's gentleness with children.

Cut off from the main body of Knights alongside Serpico and Farnese, Jerome rides out the rest of the Albion nightmare in their company, mostly observing and now and then drawing his blade. Word later reaches Luca that he married a noblewoman as planned. The prostitute, however, refused his standing offer, unwilling to wound a wife she found kind if unworldly.
