Cang Du

Cang is a lean man with narrow, pale-blue eyes and short black hair whose pointed bangs fall between them, plus a small vertical scar beside the left corner of his mouth. He dresses in his own version of the Sternritter uniform: the order's hooded cloak over a trench-coat-style gi that stops just below the waist, cinched with a black sash, and a pair of black fingerless gloves.

Reserved to the point of coldness, Cang barely reacted when Yhwach chose the newcomer Uryū Ishida as successor while his comrades seethed. He holds firmly that whatever exists together in life should end together in death, and he acts on that belief deliberately. Dismissive of the notion that Bankai possess wills of their own, he is utterly loyal to Yhwach, refusing to be slain by any hand but the emperor's, not even Jugram Haschwalth's.

Answering Yhwach's call, Cang joins the Sternritter in their assault on the Seireitei. He clashes with Captain Tōshirō Hitsugaya, shrugging off ice with his hardened Iron skin and shredding it with his Reishi Claws, then uses a Medallion to steal the captain's Bankai, Daiguren Hyōrinmaru, and turn it against him. When Genryūsai Yamamoto's own Bankai evaporates the water across Soul Society, the stolen ice melts too.

At the second invasion, Cang claims the right to finish Hitsugaya, dropping the unconscious Rangiku Matsumoto before him so the two can die together, and reveals his epithet, The Iron. The tide turns after Hitsugaya swallows Kisuke Urahara's Shin'eiyaku pill; because Hollow power is toxic to Quincy, the Hollowfied Bankai tears free and returns to its true owner. Regaining control, Hitsugaya seals Cang inside a giant cross of ice, which Cang shatters by activating his Quincy: Vollständig, freed from the medallion that had blocked it.

His Schrift lets him plate his body in iron that turns aside even a captain's blade, and his Reishi Claws can pierce thick ice or fire the serpent-shaped blast Shé Jìn Zhǎo; he is likewise a swift Hirenkyaku user and a strong hand-to-hand fighter. Rendered unconscious by Uryū, Cang is later bound before Yhwach at the Execution Ground. When Haschwalth moves to cull the Sternritter who lost, Cang halts the blade with his iron skin and vows to fall only to His Majesty, but Haschwalth simply tips the scales of fortune against him and beheads him, whereupon Yhwach absorbs his power.
