Fourth Division

Among the thirteen squads of the Gotei 13, the Fourth stands apart as the branch devoted to medicine and logistics rather than open battle. Isane Kotetsu commands it, with Kiyone Kotetsu serving as her lieutenant, and it follows the same basic structure as any other squad while carrying a very different mandate. Its emblem is the bellflower, its motto holds that those who grieve are loved, and its colors run to a dusky pink.

The squad shoulders the Soul Society's medical, supply, and janitorial work all at once. Its members turn their spiritual energy toward mending injuries instead of trading blows, drilling constantly so they can reach and stabilize casualties with speed and precision before moving them to the coordinated relief station housed in their barracks, the central hospital of the entire Seireitei. Nurses there wear pink robes topped with caps modeled on human-world uniforms. Because their gift lies in care rather than swordplay, the Eleventh Division writes them off as weak and routinely dumps cleaning and menial chores on them, bullying that most of the Eleventh keeps up only because they fear the Fourth's former captain, Retsu Unohana.

Captain Isane Kotetsu leads the division alongside lieutenant Kiyone Kotetsu, while the formidable Retsu Unohana held the captaincy before them. Its ranks also include the perpetually put-upon medic Hanataro Yamada, along with relief team leaders such as Yasochika Iemura and Harunobu Ogido.
