Goteitaishi

Goteitaishi has tanned skin, spiky brown hair, and a mustache, dressed in the usual Shinigami robes. Little about his look sets him apart from the many other rough-edged members of the Eleventh Division.

He often comes across as brutish and menacing, though the bravado caves into cowardice around anyone who scares him. Like most of his squad he holds that only the strong belong among them, flatly telling Seizo Harugasaki what a shame it is that noncombatants get counted in their ranks, and he happily lords his strength over those beneath him, ordering them about.

He first turns up in the crowd watching Kenpachi Zaraki fight the previous Eleventh Division captain. During the Soul Society arc his group mistakes Ichigo Kurosaki for the orange-haired intruder and gives chase, only to wind up beaten and heaped at Ichigo's feet. He recovers in the Fourth Division barracks, where his griping is silenced the instant Captain Unohana quietly reminds him whose care his life rests in. Later, sent with an Eleventh Division detachment to a Hollow-struck town, he grumbles about being stuck with cleanup and keeps belittling Seizo even after a Hollow cuts him down, though he still lines up to bow as Seizo departs on the day of his retirement.
