Grand Fisher

In his original Hollow shape, Grand Fisher looks like an enormous hamster fitted with crimson, bird-like claws for hands and feet, and a red appendage dangles from his brow much like the lure of a deep-sea anglerfish. That lure is roughly the size of a person and can be reshaped into whoever he pleases, most often a young girl. His first, imperfect Arrancar body shrinks him into a more human silhouette with a tattooed face, half of it hidden behind mask fragments that make up his lower jaw. By the time he returns to hunt Ichigo again, the change is drastic: an intact mask rides atop his forehead, thick green fur covers a far larger frame, his Hollow hole sits higher on his body, and an oversized sword rests across his back.

Grand Fisher hunts by preying on sentiment, twisting his lure into someone dear to a target so they hesitate to strike back. He is patient and predatory, content to keep his true body hidden and wait, and the anime paints women as his preferred quarry. That cunning comes paired with self-preservation: rather than fight to the finish against Ichigo, he flees, a choice his fellow Arrancar openly mock. His final form carries a swordsman's arrogance as well, and he sneers that the size of a blade must reflect the strength of the one who carries it.

For fifty-four years Grand Fisher eluded the Shinigami, growing infamous enough to earn a thick file in Soul Society's records. When Ichigo was nine, the Hollow lay hidden beside a rain-swollen river with his lure disguised as a girl on the bank. Ichigo rushed to help her, and his mother Masaki, her Quincy powers stripped away by Yhwach's Auswählen, was left defenseless and killed. Years later, at Masaki's grave, the same decoy resurfaces; when Karin and Yuzu fall into his grasp, Ichigo severs the lure and one of the Hollow's hands to save them.

The battle that follows lays bare the creature's tricks: he impales Ichigo with hidden claws to sift through his memories, then shapes the lure into Masaki to use as a living shield. Ichigo runs him through and inflicts massive damage, but Grand Fisher escapes by leaping into the lure's body, which doubles as a spare vessel. Back in Hueco Mundo, the Arrancar Aisslinger Wernarr shatters his mask and remakes him into an imperfect Arrancar.

Set on finishing Ichigo, Grand Fisher slips into the Human World and chases Kon, who is wearing Ichigo's body, until Isshin Kurosaki steps in disguised as a Shinigami. Learning Ichigo is a Shinigami's son explains his earlier defeat, but Isshin has come to end him regardless. The Hollow swells to towering size and draws a skyscraper-sized blade, boasting that Isshin's small sword cannot win, only for Isshin to cut him down in a single stroke and lecture the dying Hollow that captains compress their swords rather than measure power by length.
