Kaiwan
CharacterKaiwan is one of the four gatekeepers who guard the entrances to the Seireitei, standing watch over the Blue Stream Gate on its eastern side. A towering manga-only figure, he is briefly turned against Ichigo Kurosaki's group through Sōsuke Aizen's hypnosis.
Appearance
Kaiwan looms over nearly every other Shinigami, an unusually large man crowned with long black hair. Two thick bands of black facial hair run down his cheeks while the rest of his face stays clean-shaven. He goes bare-chested, clad only in dark hakama held with a white sash.
Personality
The manga tells little of his temperament, defining him chiefly through his post as the guardian of the eastern approach to the Seireitei.
History
Kaiwan holds one of the four gatekeeper positions of the Seireitei, charged with the Blue Stream Gate, or Shōryūmon. During the Soul Society arc, Sōsuke Aizen places him and two of his fellow guardians under hypnosis and uses them to make trouble for Ichigo Kurosaki and his companions. The ploy is brought to a halt by Jidanbō Ikkanzaka and Kūkaku Shiba. As a Shinigami entrusted with such a duty, he carries a measure of spiritual pressure.
