Marenoshin Ōmaeda

These days Marenoshin cuts a bulkier figure than in his prime, his hair darker and coiled into tighter curls. Gold jewelry hangs off him in quantity and sunglasses hide his eyes, marking him as a man settled deeply into wealth.

During his active years he was nearly a mirror of his son Marechiyo in both frame and features, and the two matched on birthday, height, and weight. He even topped his uniform with the same style of purple collar Marechiyo wears, the chief difference being the thick head of curly brown hair he carried back then.

Marenoshin looks down on the less well-off ranks of the Gotei 13 exactly as his son does. Greeting Shūhei Hisagi, Izuru Kira, and Renji Abarai when they arrived at the estate for Marechiyo's birthday, he sneered that he hoped they would amuse themselves in the manner commoners always do.

Details of his service are sparse. He held the lieutenancy of the 2nd Division in the era when Yoruichi Shihōin led it, roughly a hundred years ago, and he also led the Onmitsukidō's Patrol Corps, and he was reputedly the more capable of the two Ōmaeda. Both offices later passed to Marechiyo.

As a onetime lieutenant he commands a strong reserve of spirit energy, and his years in the 2nd Division and the covert Onmitsukidō would have honed his Shunpo. Once he stepped away from the Gotei 13, he traded that career for a life of comfort as the head of his family.
