Appearance

Ōmaeda is an enormous man, standing nearly twice as tall as his captain and many times her weight, a girth he insists reflects prosperous living rather than fat. His black hair tops a standard shihakushō worn with a broad purple collar, and he is rarely without costly custom jewelry.

Personality

Blustering, vain, and often lazy, Ōmaeda comes across as a cowardly snob obsessed with his own status and comfort. Underneath that, his devotion to Suì-Fēng runs deep; he will take a blow meant for her, serve as bait, and even sever her arm when she orders it. That loyalty pairs with a combat instinct sharper than his lumbering manner suggests, letting him catch foes off guard.

He hails from an immensely rich family, crafts his own gold jewelry, runs a gem-and-metals factory, and outfitted the Second Division barracks with luxuries like heating and automatic doors. Fond of fried rice crackers and no friend of fish, he plays the fool freely, yet threats to his siblings can rouse him to real courage and fury.

History

In the Soul Society arc, Ōmaeda shadows Suì-Fēng on the day of Rukia Kuchiki's scheduled execution and stands among the officers at Sōkyoku Hill. When Ichigo Kurosaki rescues Rukia, Suì-Fēng orders a pursuit, but Ōmaeda's freshly released flail Gegetsuburi is smashed apart by a single bare-handed punch that lays him out cold. During the fake Karakura Town battle he is deployed to guard the pillars and ends up dueling the Arrancar Nirgge Parduoc, whom he outwits despite the brute's mammoth Resurrección. He then serves as a running decoy for the aged Espada Baraggan Louisenbairn, dodging the Respira that rots everything it touches and slicing off his own badge when it is caught, buying the time Suì-Fēng needs to strike with her Bankai, which he catches her from after it drains her.

The Thousand-Year Blood War tests him hardest: after a Sternritter robs Suì-Fēng of her Bankai, that same enemy, BG9, storms his family home and impales his little sister Mareyo, sending a normally timid Ōmaeda into a rage. Rescued by Suì-Fēng, he later delivers her the Shin'eiyaku that restores her Bankai and braces her body so she can fire it and destroy BG9. He survives a strike from Bazz-B thanks to Shinji Hirako before being shot down at Wahrwelt. His sealed sword becomes the spiked ball-and-chain Gegetsuburi on the command Crush, a purely offensive weapon with no spells to it, and though he claims no talent for Kidō, his strength, endurance, and hidden skill in Shunpo make him far more dangerous than he lets on.
