Slim and boyish in build, Max sports a shock of black hair that juts out in spikes. His outfit matches the rest of his crew: a loose blue jumpsuit cinched at the middle by a yellow sash, with his weapons tucked into that same wrap.

Devotion to Daiji defines him. Max will sit tight for hours on end beside his fellow gang members, awaiting instructions, and once an order comes he carries it out without a shred of hesitation or protest.

The Kusajishi Bull's Gang forms around Daiji Hirasago, a Rukongai brawler who styles himself the Bull of Kusajishi. During the anime-exclusive Bount storyline, Ganju Shiba seeks out locals familiar with the district after learning that the enemy is massing thugs there to strike at the Seireitei. Daiji agrees to pitch in once he grasps that Ganju is really trying to support Ichigo Kurosaki, and Max joins the rounded-up fighters who raid the assembled mob one night and scatter it. Because the whole affair unfolds solely in the anime, it sits outside the manga's canon.
