Mayu Yamashita

Barely more than a baby, Mayu is a small child with brown hair, dressed in a yellow top over red bottoms. Strung around her neck hangs the little ring her father crafted for her.

As an infant of three, Mayu has little revealed of her character beyond the bond she carries for the father she never truly knew. That keepsake ring stays with her, and she takes part in the family's daily ritual of remembrance at the roadside where he died.

When Mayu was newly born, her father Yoshihiko Yamashita finished making a baby ring in the hope of watching her grow, then lost his life in a car crash. Ever since, she and her mother Tae visit the site of the accident each day to pray and leave flowers.

Yoshihiko's soul is turned into a Hollow at the hands of Bansui Amatsuki. As Ichigo Kurosaki, Rukia Kuchiki, Orihime Inoue, Yasutora Sado, and Uryu Ishida look into the strange behavior tied to the crash site, they meet Mayu and Tae, who relate the full story. After the group later confronts Yoshihiko in Hueco Mundo, Orihime returns to the living world to reunite with mother and child, and Ichigo brings them before Yoshihiko so he can reclaim his humanity.
