Modified Souls, better known as Mod-Souls, are engineered artificial souls built to supercharge an ordinary human body so it can stand toe to toe with a Hollow, each one tuned toward a single enhancement of speed, strength, or some other trait.
Mod-Souls are a specialized branch of artificial soul, condensed like their cousins into small candy-shaped orbs. Where a normal artificial soul simply runs a corpse on a set program, a Mod-Soul is engineered to grant real combat power and comes with far more independence.
They were produced under Project Spearhead, an effort to close the numbers gap between Shinigami and the far more plentiful Hollows. Each Mod-Soul was tuned toward a specific enhancement, one running many times faster than a human, another many times stronger; Kon's boosted legs make him an Underpod type. Their intended purpose was grim, to reanimate human corpses as disposable soldiers, and ethical objections eventually halted the program and marked every Mod-Soul for destruction.

Five Bleach female characters, ranked and settled. Yoruichi sits at number five, the spot nobody expects, and our number one is an Arrancar with a soft heart....

Naruto vs Luffy with the twist nobody asked for: Luffy tickled Hinata on date night, and she kind of liked it. We break down the whole fight and commit to a winner....
Kon slipped into a shipment of ordinary artificial-soul pills bound for the shop of Kisuke Urahara, where Ichigo and Rukia Kuchiki unwittingly set him loose. Spared the purge, he was housed inside a lion plushie and occupies Ichigo's body whenever its true owner departs to fight as a Shinigami. Ururu Tsumugiya and Jinta Hanakari are likewise identified as Mod-Souls, with Ururu wielding enhanced strength and a Slaughter Mode.

The Modified Souls named in Bleach are Kon, Ururu Tsumugiya, and Jinta Hanakari. Kon is an Underpod type with boosted leg strength who occupies Ichigo Kurosaki's body, while Ururu Tsumugiya wields enhanced strength along with a Slaughter Mode.
Project Spearhead was the research program that produced the Modified Souls in Bleach, aimed at closing the numbers gap between the Shinigami and the far more numerous Hollows. Each Mod-Soul to come out of it was tuned toward one specific enhancement, such as heightened speed or strength.
Mod-Souls were originally built to reanimate human corpses as disposable soldiers, a purpose considered too grim, so ethical objections halted the Project Spearhead program and marked nearly every Mod-Soul for destruction. Kon escaped that purge only because he slipped into a shipment bound for Kisuke Urahara's shop.
Kon, a Mod-Soul, slipped into a shipment of ordinary artificial-soul pills headed for Kisuke Urahara's shop, where Ichigo Kurosaki and Rukia Kuchiki accidentally set him loose. Spared from the destruction ordered for his kind, he was housed in a lion plushie and now occupies Ichigo's body whenever Ichigo leaves it to fight as a Shinigami.
