Raika Gōen Kaku is the Bankai of Shūsuke Amagai, the anime-original Third Division captain. It enlarges his fiery sword into a hulking, hook-tipped blade paired with a shield-like pauldron, and pours out a barrage of flame techniques on his foes.
The Bankai swells Raika into a far larger, more ornate version of itself, standing about as tall as Amagai. Its edge burns crimson and still curls into a hook, whose inner side now bristles with jagged teeth. A white shell trimmed in pale purple sheathes the grip, and behind it hangs a massive hollow pauldron that doubles as a shield.
In this state the weapon becomes a furnace built for offense. The blade itself takes on a fiery glow, and flame jets from the pauldron whenever its powers fire, throwing out blasts far larger and more punishing than the Shikai ever managed. The pauldron is not only a launcher but a guard, letting Amagai weather blows as readily as he deals them.
Amagai calls the Bankai forth by holding Raika before him as fire coils around his body. From it he wields a broad array of flame: the pauldron erupts as a high-intensity flamethrower, and he can spit fireballs large and small, spin the blade to rain them in volleys, or plunge it into the ground to raise geysers, fissures, and rolling waves of fire. His signature strike, Gōen Ryūga, slams the burning blade down with a bolt of lightning to trap a foe inside a cage of fire spears, and its variant Homura hurls a single giant fireball. He turns this arsenal, alongside a Bakkōtō, against Ichigo Kurosaki and Yamamoto in a bid to avenge his father, in events staged only for the anime.
Yes, Shusuke Amagai and his Bankai, Raika Goen Kaku, exist only in the anime; the character and this storyline do not appear in Tite Kubo's original manga.
In Bankai, Raika Goen Kaku grows into a hulking, crimson hooked blade nearly as tall as Amagai himself, its grip sheathed in a white and pale purple shell and backed by a massive hollow pauldron that doubles as a shield.
Raika Goen Kaku lets Amagai unleash a flamethrower from its pauldron, hurl fireballs of varying size, split the ground with fissures and waves of fire, and unleash the signature attack Goen Ryuga, which traps a foe in a lightning-charged cage of fire spears.
Raika Goen Kaku translates to Lightning Flash: Karmic Flame Shell, reflecting its fusion of fire and its shield-like pauldron.
Raika Goen Kaku is the Bankai released from the Shikai Raika, Shusuke Amagai's fire-natured Zanpakuto.
