Second Division

The Second Division follows the standard shape of a Gotei 13 squad, but its identity is defined by an unusual overlap. Because whoever captains it simultaneously heads the Onmitsukido, the stealth corps, the division's duties are bound up with covert activity. Its emblem is the pasque flower, carrying the meaning Seek Nothing, and its color is dark orange.

The division's work is inseparable from covert operations, and each of its five senior officers oversees a branch of the special forces: the captain runs the Executive Militia, the lieutenant the Patrol Unit, and the third seat the Detention Unit. Members carry out assassination, policing, detention, and courier duty. That link to the Onmitsukido was forged well over a century ago by the former captain Yoruichi Shihoin, who led the covert corps before her promotion. The division's barracks are famously lavish, rebuilt from the private fortune of Lieutenant Marechiyo Omaeda to boast automatic doors, heated floors, and even a hot spring, and its grounds hold the prison called the Nest of Maggots.

Sui-Feng serves as the division's captain and supreme commander of the covert forces, with the wealthy Marechiyo Omaeda as her lieutenant. Its most storied former leader is Yoruichi Shihoin, who held the captaincy before Sui-Feng and first bound the squad to the Onmitsukido.
