A rank-and-file member of the Third Division during Shusuke Amagai's captaincy, this death god appears only in the anime. His brief part in the story ends when a routine search puts him in the path of a traitor's blade.
Sugama presents as an unremarkable lower officer, dressed in the customary black robe with a pale sash knotted at the waist and his sword slipped through it. He keeps his hair gathered in a ponytail, with a pair of loose strands falling across his brow.
What little the story reveals hints at an easygoing, unguarded manner. He is spotted drifting through the Seireitei while drunk even as the district faces upheaval, and when he stumbles onto something he was never meant to see, his first instinct is to promise silence rather than sound an alarm.
