Amagai's True Strength, Zanpakutō is released!

Hiding in the underground tunnels with Rukia and Shū Kannogi, Ichigo debates how to rescue Rurichiyo, favoring a direct assault while Rukia argues for stealth using Kannogi's knowledge of the manor. Above ground, Suì-Fēng and Ōmaeda are ordered to stay clear of Kasumiōji affairs and focus solely on capturing Ichigo and Rukia. Amagai, for his part, quietly worries over the behavior of his subordinate Makoto Kibune.

At the manor, Gyōkaku Kumoi doubles the guard and stays confident so long as he holds Rurichiyo hostage. Kibune taunts the caged girl, promising her freedom once Ichigo is dead, then murders a drunken squad member who stumbles onto his movements. The next day Amagai sends Izuru Kira to track the missing Kibune while he hunts for Ichigo himself.

Chased to the surface, Ichigo runs straight into Amagai's unit, and the two captains trade evenly matched blows until Kannogi interrupts and persuades Amagai to hear them out. Convinced of their honesty and alarmed by the mention of the Bakkōtō, Amagai agrees to help rescue Rurichiyo, passing everything on to Izuru before the group sets out for the manor.

Suì-Fēng and Ōmaeda are ordered to leave the Kasumiōji Clan alone. Makoto Kibune kills a witness who spots his suspicious activity. Ichigo and Amagai fight to a standstill before Kannogi halts the duel. Amagai, learning of the Bakkōtō, chooses to help rescue Rurichiyo.

This anime-only installment of the New Captain Shūsuke Amagai arc adapts no manga chapter. Released blades include Ichigo's Zangetsu and Amagai's Raika, with Kaidō, Zanjutsu, and Shunpo also featured. A Shinigami Illustrated Picture Book skit shows Yachiru repeatedly outmaneuvering Byakuya as he tries to seal a trap door at the Kuchiki Manor.
