Mala Suerte!

Still borrowing Rukia's gigai, Chappy pins Ichigo and unnerves him by threatening to kill him if he squirms, wrenching his arm past the point of simply holding him down. Rukia returns and, to Ichigo's relief, confirms she beat Di Roy, drawing his eye to her white Shikai. Chappy launches into an explanation that Sode no Shirayuki is reckoned the loveliest Zanpakuto in all of Soul Society, and that Rukia had the makings of a seated officer until someone quietly intervened to spare her the dangers of rank, a someone revealed to be her own brother, Byakuya. The lecture is undercut by Chappy's cutesy hopping noises. The moment breaks when a crushing pressure announces Grimmjow overhead, who notes Di Roy's death and coolly resolves to kill the pair himself.

Around the town, the other Fracción register Di Roy's fall. Edrad shrugs that whoever killed Di Roy simply got lucky, since Di Roy was never strong enough to become a true Arrancar, and warns Ikkaku and Yumichika their luck has run out before unleashing Palma Plancha in a building-dwarfing blast. The shockwave hurls a bloodied Ikkaku down beside Keigo, who is out fetching a drink for Mizuho and recognizes him from school. When Ikkaku offers a deal, to shield Keigo from Edrad in exchange for lodging, a rattled Keigo agrees. Ikkaku then demands Edrad's name, chiding the Arrancar's poor manners and explaining that he always tells his trainees to introduce themselves to their victims. He names himself as the Third Seat of Kenpachi Zaraki's division and tells Edrad it is the last name he will ever hear.

Collected in Volume 23, MALA SUERTE!, within the Arrancar arc, and adapted into Episode 117, Rukia's Battle Commences! The Freezing White Blade. The Spanish chapter title translates roughly as Bad Luck, and Viz rendered it with opening punctuation as ¡Mala Suerte! It opens the Ikkaku versus Edrad duel and reveals Byakuya's hidden hand in keeping Rukia from a seated post.
