Keigo Asano

Keigo carries a slim build and a mop of medium-length brown hair that curls outward at the ends, framing brown eyes that usually settle into a frown or a pout, though the sight of a pretty girl flips them into a beaming grin. School days put him in the Karakura High uniform, while off campus he favors a plain shirt, pants, and the occasional jacket. His look shifts over time: his fringe grows straighter and drops across his brow after seventeen months, and a decade past Yhwach's fall leaves his hair noticeably shaggier.

Hyperactive and theatrical, Keigo throws his whole body into every mood and lives for fireworks, role-playing games, and beach outings. His constant attempts to charm women and lift Ichigo's spirits tend to end with Ichigo smacking him, and he plays comic opposite to the cool, girl-magnet Mizuiro Kojima. He wears his poor grades as a badge of honor, branding anyone who cracks the top fifty a traitor, yet Mizuiro insists he is far sharper than his marks suggest. He also learns fast, if arrogantly, blocking a kick from Rangiku Matsumoto after a single try before bragging his way into taking another one to the face.

Before high school, Keigo works himself into a panic over rumors that Ichigo and Sado are dangerous delinquents, only to wind up caught in a schoolyard brawl with Reiichi Ōshima's gang; the pair rescue him after Mizuiro's friendly introduction, and a lasting friendship takes root. Across Ichigo's adventures Keigo mostly stays a bystander, mugging through the Don Kanonji craze, howling over Ichigo's surprise spot on the honor roll, and organizing summer festivals.

His years around Ichigo slowly awaken a faint spiritual awareness and a trace of spiritual power, which surface once Ikkaku Madarame's battle convinces him the fights are real. When Sōsuke Aizen looms over a hollowed-out Fake Karakura Town, Keigo helps carry the sleeping townsfolk and even snatches Zennosuke Kurumadani's Zanpakutō to make a doomed stand. Years later Shunsui Kyōraku warns the friends that Ichigo may be kept in Soul Society and hands out Soul Tickets, and a decade on Keigo opens a struggling ramen stand called Willpower Ramen, still the butt of Ichigo's jokes.
