255. DON'T BREATHE IN THE BUSH

In his open-air throne room, Aizen receives word that Dordoni has already fallen and remarks only that Ichigo took longer than expected. When he presses to learn who dispatched the Exequias after the wounded intruder, his rising spiritual pressure sends the reporting attendant into terror, until Szayelaporro Granz steps forward and admits the order was his. Kneeling, the scientist explains he seized the chance to finish Ichigo while he was weakened and offers himself for punishment, but Aizen waves it off, satisfied so long as the reasoning was sound. He notes, almost idly, that Szayelaporro also drew a record of Ichigo's spiritual pressure from Dordoni for his experiments.

Alone with Gin afterward, Aizen does little to hide his amusement at watching the invaders cut down every obstacle and press ever closer. Gin observes that his master seems to be enjoying the spectacle despite losing a servant, and Aizen concedes the point, to which Gin cheerfully admits he feels exactly the same.

Elsewhere, Uryū is on the defensive against Cirucci Sanderwicci, who rains her tethered blade-disc down from atop a pillar. His Heilig Pfeil is casually deflected, and Cirucci, mocking his manners and his taste in clothes, whips the disc through the air to shatter his cover. When the blade tears clean through his bow, Ginrei Kojaku, and gashes his shoulder, Uryū is flung toward a doorway, where an unseen figure, Pesche, watches him rise and curse.

The chapter deepens Aizen's characterization, showing him unbothered by casualties and openly entertained by the invasion, a chilling portrait mirrored in Gin's matching detachment. It reveals Szayelaporro's ulterior motive of collecting Ichigo's spirit data for research, seeding his later role. On the battlefield, Cirucci's ranged, disc-based weapon establishes her as a serious threat who is steadily winning against Uryū.

Part of the volume THE SLASHING OPERA, this chapter was adapted into Episode 153. The scene marks the point where Szayelaporro's scientific interest in Ichigo becomes explicit, foreshadowing the data-driven schemes he pursues later in the arc.
