A single sweep of Nnoitra Gilga's blade tears through Sado's chest and a large piece of Brazo Derecha de Gigante, dropping him in a spray of blood as the Arrancar mutters that he always expected such weakness. The sudden collapse of Sado's Reiatsu jolts Ichigo, Rukia, Renji, and Uryū where they stand, but Ichigo forces himself to keep running and to trust that everyone will make it out alive.

In her cell, Orihime feels the same loss and clashes with Ulquiorra, who arrives with a meal and cold indifference, threatening to force-feed her and dismissing Sado's fate as meaningless since all her friends are doomed regardless. Ulquiorra pressures Orihime to eat and coldly foretells her friends' deaths, earning a slap before he withdraws. Rukia, following Sado's failing signal, is lured into Aaroniero's palace, where the ninth Espada unmasks to show her the long-dead Kaien Shiba.
