Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez guesses that Loly Aivirrne and Menoly Mallia crept in while Ulquiorra was gone and asks if they are enjoying themselves. He answers Loly's demand with a brutal kick to the gut that flings her aside and leaves her retching, and when Menoly gathers a Cero around her fist, he catches it, snuffs the energy, and fires his own blast that erases the upper half of her body as Orihime Inoue looks on in horror. Loly's threat that Aizen will punish him only earns her a torn-off leg, and Grimmjow flatly notes that Aizen does not care what he does to them. Turning to Orihime, he explains that his motive is his own left arm, seizing her by the collar to make clear he has come to settle a debt, which means there is now a task she must perform for him.

Over in Szayelaporro Granz's hall, the grieving Fraccion round on Uryu Ishida, who stands in a broken wall and dryly notes their numbers against their weakness. Pesche Guatiche cowers near him and asks whether the Arrancar are trembling, drawing an annoyed order to keep hidden. Szayelaporro quiets his minions so their guest may speak, and Uryu asks whether he is an Espada, prompting the Arrancar to name himself the eighth. Unimpressed by the number, Uryu identifies himself as a Quincy, which delights Szayelaporro, who recognizes him as the one who beat Cirucci Sanderwicci and gleefully savors facing both a Quincy and a Bankai wielder. As he crows that Yammy would howl at such luck, Uryu flickers behind him with Hirenkyaku, admits he does not know any Yammy, and looses a Seele Schneider from his Ginrei Kojaku at the startled Espada.

Grimmjow kills Menoly with a Cero and cripples Loly, dismissing Aizen's authority over him. He confronts Orihime and reveals he intends to make her repay him for restoring his arm. Uryu formally challenges Szayelaporro, who identifies himself as Espada number eight and recognizes Uryu's earlier victory over Cirucci. Uryu opens the duel by teleporting behind the Espada and firing a Seele Schneider.

The fourth chapter of the thirty-first volume, DON'T KILL MY VOLUPTURE, its blunt title underscores the predatory footing of both confrontations. The material was folded into Episode 163 of the anime, Shinigami and Quincy, the Battle of Madness. A brief flashback recalls Cirucci Sanderwicci from Uryu's earlier fight.
