Heal for The Crash

Facing Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez in the tower, Ulquiorra Cifer demands to know why he is having Orihime Inoue heal a foe he had already beaten. Getting no answer, he dismisses the matter and orders Grimmjow to surrender the girl, since Aizen placed her in his charge. Grimmjow refuses, mocks how talkative he has become, and lunges, only to have the grab turned aside by the back of Ulquiorra's hand.

Accusing Ulquiorra of dreading a fight that might end them both, Grimmjow looses a point-blank Cero that drives him back, then claims he expected the deflection and that a single shot was never the plan. Ulquiorra flickers above him and aims a charging Cero at his skull, but Grimmjow presses his palm to the finger and fires his own, and the twin blasts level the tower's crown and leave the Espada scorched in a churning cloud. From behind, Grimmjow slips a Caja Negacion into Ulquiorra's Hollow hole, and rebounding beams of energy cage him before he vanishes from sight.

Orihime, who had raised Santen Kesshun to shield herself and Ichigo, lowers it and asks what happened. Grimmjow explains that the devices are handed to the Espada by Aizen to punish their own Fraccion with permanent exile, but since they were never built for an Espada this one can only hold Ulquiorra for a few hours. When he tells her to resume healing, she refuses, and though he seizes her throat, she swears she will never help him slay Ichigo. Ichigo grabs his arm and makes him release her, then asks Orihime to treat his wounds along with Grimmjow's burned arm. Grimmjow spurns the pity, but Ichigo reasons that keeping his injuries would just hand him an excuse in defeat, so the Arrancar draws his blade and attacks, met by Ichigo's Zangetsu as he calls for a clean finish.

Grimmjow refuses to hand Orihime to Ulquiorra and dueling Ceros wreck the tower. He seals Ulquiorra away with a Caja Negacion, which can only detain an Espada for a few hours. Ichigo insists Orihime heal both himself and Grimmjow so neither has an excuse, and the two clash to begin their duel in earnest.

This closing chapter of the thirty-first volume, DON'T KILL MY VOLUPTURE, clears the board for the Ichigo and Grimmjow rematch that dominates the following volume. Its events were adapted into Episode 165 of the anime, Murderous Intent! The Joyful Grimmjow. The volume ends with an author note from Tite Kubo mentioning a second Bleach film in the works.
