Believing Yammy Llargo finished, Ichigo Kurosaki calmly stows his mask. Rukia Kuchiki recalls hearing that his mask reshapes its markings over time and notices that this design differs entirely from any before, while Ichigo himself frets over his Hollowfication, the mask feeling heavier than it should. Yammy then rises and reveals the strike barely grazed him.

Stunned, Ichigo endures the giant's jeers that every Espada he has bested, Ulquiorra included, amounts to garbage next to Yammy. Ichigo counters that he never truly held the edge over any of them and won only because he had no choice, and that Yammy is no different, though Yammy insists the gap in their strength can never close. As the Espada presses his attack, Ichigo reflects that only Orihime seems to grieve for the fallen Espada. He admits he does not expect Yammy to mourn his allies and does not regret cutting them down, yet he still resents the trash talk. He reaches for his mask but cannot summon it, and a delighted Yammy grabs him to squeeze the life from him. A powerful Sōkatsui strikes the giant and severs one of his legs, toppling him, as Byakuya Kuchiki and Kenpachi Zaraki make their entrance.

Yammy shrugs off Ichigo's finishing blow, laying bare the enormous gap in their power, and Ichigo's Hollow mask refuses to answer when he needs it most. As Yammy moves to crush him, a Sōkatsui shears off the Espada's leg, announcing the arrival of captains Byakuya Kuchiki and Kenpachi Zaraki.

The second chapter of volume 44, VICE IT, it first ran in Weekly Shōnen Jump without a title before receiving its Spanish name, which translates as Lack of Harmony. The chapter was adapted into episode 286, Protect Karakura Town! Ichigo, towards the Real World! Several flashback panels revisit Ichigo's earlier clashes with the Espada.
