Aizen frames the many schemes his three opponents have devised as a measure of the hope they still cling to, declaring it his duty to crush every one of them, and invites their next attempt as Ichigo watches helplessly. Urahara laments their bind, revealing that Yoruichi's shattered armor was his own design, crafted to overcome Hierro, and that he never expected it to break so easily. Yoruichi bristles at the suggestion that her concentration slipped and blames shoddy construction, sparking a round of bickering that Isshin observes.

Aizen interrupts to point out that if a single swing erased the armor, three more strikes will wipe out all of Yoruichi's special gear. Urahara asks whether she can manage; she replies it is only a matter of hitting him with something other than her left leg, but Aizen materializes at her right side and an explosion follows.

On the other front, Gin slips behind Ichigo and needles him about leaving his back open, then laughs it off and suggests they simply rest and watch Aizen work, calling further struggle pointless. He confides that in all his time beside Aizen he has never witnessed a form like this, the result of Aizen absorbing the Hogyoku unnoticed, and concludes that everyone present will die. When Ichigo refuses to accept that, Gin senses defeat already creeping into him and dismisses him as a fragile child, unwilling to leave a coward to Aizen. Adopting an unfamiliar stance, he looses a new Bankai attack, Buto, and follows with Buto: Renjin, forcing Ichigo to summon his mask. Far off, Izuru Kira regains consciousness, calls for his captain, and notices Rangiku running through Fake Karakura Town.

Aizen threatens to erase Yoruichi's remaining armor within three swings and vanishes to her side as an explosion erupts. Gin unveils accelerated Bankai techniques, Buto and Buto: Renjin, pushing Ichigo to don his Hollow mask, while Izuru Kira awakens and sees Rangiku moving through the streets.

Chapter 404 closes out the Fake Karakura Town material of the forty-sixth volume, BACK FROM BLIND, within the Deicide arc. It introduces Gin's Buto attacks and was adapted into anime Episode 300, Urahara Appears! Stop Aizen!
