Summary
Sizing up his opponent, Byakuya notes how carefully Tsukishima moves. Tsukishima admits he is working out a strategy and slashes at the objects around him before the two resume trading blows.
In the other duel, Moe clutches at Ikkaku's leg as the Shinigami tries to walk off, vowing to keep fighting. Ikkaku tells him there is nothing here worth dying over, and Moe answers that his life already belongs to Tsukishima. Ikkaku challenges that devotion, asking whether Tsukishima would die as readily in return and insisting a person should only give his life for someone who would do the same. Branding Moe a glory-chaser, he warns that pressing on will get the boy killed.
Byakuya then springs a trap Tsukishima had prepared. The Fullbringer explains that his Book of the End can write his presence into the history of lifeless objects, letting him set the ambush in advance, and he seizes Byakuya's wrist as the captain moves to strike.
