Desperate Struggle!? Byakuya's Troubled Memories

Byakuya and Tsukishima circle warily until the captain releases his blade. Tsukishima springs a trap set long ago, revealing that his ability rewrites the history of objects as well as people, and having already inserted himself into Senbonzakura's past, he claims the petals can no longer touch him. He exposes the eighty-five centimeter zone that shields Byakuya from his own blades, naming it the sole weakness of the technique and boasting that the captain himself gave up the secret. When Byakuya's sealed sword shatters, he calmly moves to his final release and forges brand-new tactics, narrowing his safe zone and speeding the petals by hand. Cut by his own blades at the crucial moment, he still drives a fistful of them clean through Tsukishima's chest, thanking his foe for pushing him to invent a winning method.

In a second thread, Ikkaku berates Shishigawara for throwing his life away for a leader who would never do the same, and the Fullbringer recalls overhearing Ginjō order his death, leaving him deflated. Meanwhile, Rukia struggles against Riruka, who traps her inside a plush toy where her spells backfire. Riruka shares her lonely childhood and Xcution's shared history as society's prey, then finally stabs Rukia after tricking her out of the doll, leaving her unconscious.

Tsukishima reveals his power affects inanimate objects and exposes Byakuya's Senbonzakura safe zone. Byakuya's sealed blade breaks, forcing him into his final release, where he devises untried tactics and impales Tsukishima to win. Ikkaku challenges Shishigawara's blind loyalty, and the Fullbringer remembers Ginjō ordering him killed. Riruka imprisons Rukia inside a stuffed toy, recounts her painful past, and defeats her with a stab after freeing her from the doll.

The episode draws on a run of chapters from 468 through 472 in the Lost Substitute Shinigami arc, concluding three fights at once: Byakuya against Tsukishima, Ikkaku against Shishigawara, and Rukia against Riruka. Riruka's flashback fleshes out how each Xcution member came to see themselves as hunted outsiders. The closing Quincy Encyclopedia segment shows Ryūken finding his son's farewell note in the hospital and quietly telling the absent Uryū to do as he pleases.
