Shido's finish leaves the arena spellbound, Buratsuta staring and Hoichi pumping his fist as Aiku praises the flawless pairing of Shido and Sae. The crowd erupts at the newcomer's debut, and Shido is intoxicated by the roar until Sae reminds him the game is only level and tells him to settle down. Bachira calls the goal unfair, and a frustrated Niko admits the two attackers have sparked a chemical reaction that simply will not stop.

Isagi replays the brutal free kick in his head. Shido, he reasons, pictured the exact spot he most wanted to strike and made straight for it, while Chigiri correctly guessed the play and raced to cut it out. Yet Sae sensed all of it and, in a split second before contact, adjusted the pace and angle to Shido's target and Chigiri's speed, threading a ball just past the defender's reach but square in the shooter's range. The realization hits Isagi hard: he has been chasing that same instant, reflex-born decision-making, and Shido's leaping volley over Chigiri with his Drive Shot was born of the same reflex. Sae's instinct fused with Shido's is what produced the superhuman goal, and where Blue Lock could never control Shido, Sae reads him perfectly. Isagi warns himself the pair are only warming up and could sink Blue Lock fast. Shido, delighted, asks Sae for his number, and Sae says maybe, if he manages a hat trick.

Suddenly Chigiri crumples, clutching his left knee and calling it a cramp, while Niko drops too as his ankle flares. Ego announces it is time to change the lineup, telling the stunned bench that the team's broken balance will be mostly restored. Chigiri apologizes, ashamed that he has run out of stamina so early, blaming the years he spent avoiding football for leaving his conditioning short. As the substitution boards go up, Reo and Hiori come on for Niko and Chigiri. Up in the stands Ego needles Chigiri about his sour expression, and the tearful winger insists he has no issue with the call; Ego coolly replies that if he wants to cry, he should have built the stamina to finish the match, and that his frustration marks exactly where he stands.

With 35 minutes remaining, Blue Lock not only makes the two swaps but shifts positions: Reo takes Niko's left center-back role, Otoya moves to right side-back in Chigiri's place, and Hiori fills in at right wing. Reo pushes Nagi to score, insisting he can do better and that losing means the end for them all. Nagi agrees, and Isagi and Rin brace themselves as play restarts.

Shido caps his national debut with a spectacular goal, and Isagi grasps that Sae and Shido operate on reflex, the missing piece in his own game, made devastating because Sae can match Shido's instincts. Shido asks for Sae's number and is told to earn it with a hat trick. Chigiri and Niko succumb to injury and fatigue and are replaced by Hiori and Reo, after which Blue Lock rearranges its positions and the second half continues.
