Chapter 234 lets Hiori embrace his identity as a passer who directs from behind. His pinpoint cross sets Isagi up for a strike, yet Kaiser darts in to poke it away and Baro smothers the attempt, leaving both partners hungry for more.
Hiori's theft off Baro leaves Niko and Aiku stunned, while Lorenzo concedes the match might already be lost without that intervention. Isagi marvels that Hiori seized a pocket even he had missed. Racing forward, Hiori shakes off Sendo, who cannot make sense of his slippery running, and when Niko applies pressure he releases the ball to Isagi. The pair press on with Yukimiya joining the surge. Reflecting on Isagi's toolkit, Hiori regards the knack for devouring rivals as one of his finest weapons and becomes certain Isagi will rewrite the sport's history; the wish to witness that and be integral to it is what propels him. He also appreciates that Isagi taught him egoists need not be only the goal-scoring stars, since a director who threads passes can be one too.
Weaving past Niko and Abdi, who remark on his tempo and craft, Hiori sees Isagi slip beyond Aiku and floats a cross meant to drop right at his feet. Isagi grins at the ultra-precise delivery, and when Lorenzo lunges to close him down, he feints to open his left foot. As he shapes to shoot cleanly, Kaiser tears in to strip the ball in midair; the two make contact with it, and after Aryu fails to intervene, Baro gathers the loose ball. Both Isagi and Hiori are exasperated that flawless visualization still left them beaten, sensing that some further element is required to seize control of the match.
Hiori links with Isagi and Yukimiya to move the ball upfield. He delivers a final cross to Isagi, but Kaiser strikes it away and Baro shuts down the resulting effort.
Director is the fourth chapter of Volume 27 and the two hundred thirty-fourth overall, within the Neo Egoist League Arc. The Bastard München against Ubers match stays level at two goals each. It is written by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and illustrated by Yusuke Nomura.
