Appearance

Yoshida wears his smooth black hair at middling length, just brushing the top of his neck, above dark eyes set in a slim face marked by a beauty spot beneath his lips. His left ear carries eight piercings, though his hair usually hides all but six, a likely nod to his bond with the Octopus Devil. Out of uniform he dresses casually in an open light jacket and dark trousers, but he wears Fourth East High School's uniform neatly buttoned, and he switches to a standard suit and tie for Public Safety assignments.

Personality

Easygoing and full of mischief, Yoshida loves to trade idle banter with his enemies mid-fight, all while keeping a near-constant smile fixed on his face. That cheer hides a hard edge, however, and he cuts down Joey of the immortal brothers without a flicker of hesitation. He treats his duties with real seriousness and stands by his word, warning Denji outright that any attempt to expose himself as Chainsaw Man will be met with force, then making good on the threat. He can just as easily play the villain, holding Nayuta hostage to pressure Denji, or act as the boy's steadiest friend, skipping class to take him to a movie.

He carries an evident distaste for death, going so far as to ask whether Chainsaw Man might devour the Death Devil for everyone's sake, and he presses Fami about the prophecy he seems eager to avert. Direct by nature, he wastes no time on pleasantries and goes straight to the point, his smile only faltering into a grimace when Denji's stubbornness wears him down. Visiting his old school, he admits regret at never having lived as an ordinary student, a longing his work made impossible. What begins as cold duty toward Denji softens over time into something close to friendship, and his parting words of thanks and apology hint at genuine affection.

History

Yoshida began as a private devil hunter, ranked by Makima among the elite bodyguard specialists alongside Kusakabe and Tamaoki. After moving into Public Safety's Special Division 7, where he served beside Fumiko Mifune, he was handed the job of watching over Denji and enrolled at Fourth East High School to do it, repeatedly stepping in to keep the boy from giving away his identity. He proves a sharp tactician throughout, sensing when to act and when to hang back, as when he hauls Denji away moments before Yoru can strike.

His combat hinges on a deal struck with the Octopus Devil, summoned by crossing two fingers to call up tentacles that rise from clouds of ink. He can have them lash out, bind a crowd, shield himself, or catch his own fall, and on command they belch a blinding smokescreen, seize a target, or swallow a foe whole. He matched the famously powerful Quanxi for several minutes in unarmed combat before losing, and his swordsmanship is keen enough to sever Asa Mitaka's arm before she can react. He later strikes a second pact with the Aging Devil in exchange for escaping its trapped world.

For all his skill and caution, Yoshida ultimately meets his end at the hands of Barem Bridge, falling in the later stretch of the conflict.
