Sentimental Drive

The morning after the Church broadcast, Asa hears a report casting doubt on whether that organization's Chainsaw Man is real. She agrees, recalling the genuine article as coarse and foolish, and blushes mid-thought before a smug Yoru breaks in. Yoru reminds her host that she still intends to kill him and teases her about falling for him. Asa insists she is merely thankful for being saved repeatedly, then changes the subject by asking why Yoru seems so cheerful. The War Devil explains that the Falling Devil's gravitational havoc has spread poverty worldwide, making war far likelier. Asked whether she would still pursue Chainsaw Man even with her powers restored, Yoru confirms she would, which only sends Asa drifting back to the night of her rescue and into composing a syrupy love poem in his honor.

The awkward recitation is cut off when Fami materializes beside them and swipes their loaf of bread. Ignoring their questions about how she arrived and what she wants, Fami simply keeps asking to eat it, then devours the whole loaf with strawberry jam once permitted and announces she has come to help. Rummaging through the fridge, she lays out a plan to fulfill both desires. Chainsaw Man has quit fighting Devils, yet his heart prevents him from ever being fully human, leaving him a constant target. The Church's leadership wants civilians to hunt every Devil so he never needs to fight, which would let his power fade until Devils lose all urge to challenge him. Asa is invited to join the Church and aid the scheme as repayment for her rescues.

When Yoru balks, Fami produces a photo of the Chainsaw Devil, noting how it differs from the Chainsaw Man who saved them, and points out that going along would let Yoru reach her true target. Asa still protests, citing Fami's hand in Yuko's attack and the aquarium incident, plus the suspicious presence of a false Chainsaw Man as the Church's spokesperson. Fami replies that the fake exists to draw the Devils' attention and urges Asa to trust the Church over her.

Collected in Volume 16 and part of the Chainsaw Man Church arc, this chapter closes on a news report that a Carpenter Bee Devil has been put down inside an apartment block by an unregistered volunteer tied to the Church, her tenth kill that month. The hunter is revealed as Asa Mitaka, sparking rumors that she has been behind Chainsaw Man's successes all along, while an irritated Denji watches from home.
