Safe Battle

With Michigan already spent, Yoru takes up the freshly forged Oregon Sword and splits Pochita down the middle, though he reassembles almost at once. The Oregonians who had been sealed inside the forming blade are flung from the crushed mass of their state and tumble into the sea below, dazed and scattered. Exasperated, Yoru demands to know what Pochita has eaten, unable to finish him off no matter how far she pushes.

She then sacrifices Oregon's surviving population for more strength, the people seeming to simply blink out of existence, and one of the many Fumiko clones is wiped out with them, letting slip a defeated sigh before fading. Yoru pours this energy into a crushing strike she names the Oregon Slash. Calling it the end of the road, she next offers up the residents of Virginia, fittingly the very people who once cheered the use of nuclear arms on the Soviet Union, to power her ultimate move, the Nuclear Punch.

The watching devils look on in awe as Yoru drives the blow into Pochita with everything she has, setting off a colossal blast. Far below, the Japanese populace stay oblivious as the explosion swallows the city around them, its shockwave so immense that it nearly forces open the very doors of Hell. The chapter's trivia draws a parallel between Yoru's serial human and state sacrifices and the real horrors of war, in which citizens who back their nation's victories are themselves consumed as fuel for it.
