Teach Me How to Swim

Roaming the darkened school, Reze claims to be frightened and slips her hand into Denji's while he silently apologizes to Makima. In a classroom she feeds him playful nonsense, basic sums and rude English phrases, then needles him about whether a Devil Hunter's life truly suits him. Denji answers that the job at least buys him meals and a bed; Reze counters that those are merely the barest minimum, and reading his unease she proposes a swim.

Poolside, Reze undresses, and although Denji cannot swim he strips off too, guilt over Makima notwithstanding, then hesitates before diving in for her lesson. When rain drives them back indoors, Reze wonders aloud whether he would pick the life of a country mouse or a city mouse. Aki and the Angel Devil are trading the exact same question elsewhere, the Angel favoring the quieter country existence yet dragged into the city by Makima. Denji lands on the city mouse, since food and fun matter to him more than any danger. Reze asks him to a food festival the next day and slips off to the bathroom, leaving him to mutter that she is so cute. Out in the corridor a scarred man with a knife nears her, while Denji uneasily starts seeing Reze beside Makima whenever he shuts his eyes.

The Japanese title is Oyogikata o oshiete. This Volume 5 chapter appeared in 2019 Issue 46 on October 12, 2019, as part of the Bomb Girl arc, and was adapted in the Reze Arc film. Makima features in Denji's thoughts and the Mysterious Man arrives at the chapter's close.
