Jane Fell Asleep in the Church

By himself, Denji confides to Pochita that he is now torn between two women, his thoughts cycling through several faces before settling on Makima and Reze as he quietly asks which one to choose. Meanwhile the scarred man chases Reze onto a rooftop, telling her she is only bait, the cheese to lure Denji, and describing his plan to mutilate her and seize control of him. As he attacks she slips aside, mounts his back, and strangles him with almost no effort, humming a Russian lullaby while he dies.

Standing over a drain, Reze addresses the Typhoon Devil, which apologizes and calls her Ms. Reze; she agrees to overlook its slip in exchange for disposing of the corpse, then strolls back to Denji wearing a smile. The following evening the two enjoy the festival and climb a hill to watch fireworks, where Reze turns to him and asks him to quit hunting Devils and flee with her, vowing to make him happy and keep him safe.

The Japanese title is Jēn wa Kyōkai de Nemutta. This Volume 5 chapter ran in 2019 Issue 47 on October 21, 2019, in the Bomb Girl arc, and was adapted in the Reze Arc film. The Mysterious Man dies here, while Pochita, the Typhoon Devil, and several characters appear in voice or imagery. Trivia notes that the film of Look Back nods to Chainsaw Man by reworking artwork from this chapter and Chapter 44 inside Fujino's in-story manga Shark Kick.
