In the ninety-ninth chapter, Asa wakes to find Yoru, the War Devil who seized her body, visible only to her. Yoru plans to wage war on Chainsaw Man, awkwardly interrogates and asks out Yoshida, and pushes Asa to join the Devil Hunter Club to track him down.
The morning after Yoru's War Devil slew both Tanaka and the Class President, Asa wakes unscarred and wonders if it was a dream, then finds a scarred, spiral-eyed double of herself sitting on the bed. The lookalike orders her to eat breakfast and head to school or die. Disbelieving, Asa pinches herself, so Yoru gestures at a TV report on the two deaths to prove it is real. Asa's hand passes through her; Yoru explains she is a hallucination only Asa can see, that Asa died yesterday, and that she took over the body to save her, introducing herself as the War Devil.
Walking to school, Yoru lays out her goal: to make war on Chainsaw Man, but first she must blend into the school he reportedly attends, since she cannot navigate human society alone. Gripped by anxiety at the gate, Asa says she would rather die than go in. Yoshida approaches to check on her, and when Yoru tells Asa to ask him about Chainsaw Man's whereabouts, Asa snaps 'shut up,' confusing him before she covers it.
Frustrated, Yoru forces Asa out and takes control, asking Yoshida directly. He has only just transferred and does not know, but mentions word that the Chainsaw Devil has signed up with the Devil Hunter Club. Yoru then asks the boy to be her boyfriend; he declines and leaves. Mortified, Asa demands an explanation, and Yoru reveals she can transform anyone she owns into a weapon, aiming to arm as many humans as possible against Chainsaw Man. Yoru can hear Asa's every thought and offers her body back in exchange for cooperation; desperate, Asa agrees. Following Yoshida's tip, she signs up for the Devil Hunter Club and is paired off with two classmates, one of them the very boy Yoru just asked out, to hunt a devil within the week.
Asa wakes to discover Yoru, the War Devil, occupying her body as a hallucination only she can see. Yoru declares her plan to war against Chainsaw Man and forces Asa to help her blend in at his school. After Yoru hijacks control to question and clumsily ask out Yoshida, he passes along a rumor placing the Chainsaw Devil in the Devil Hunter Club. Asa enrolls in the club and is paired with Yoshida to hunt a devil.
