Appearance

Dark eyes sit beneath bangs of pale, cropped hair, and three rings pierce each of Raiya's ears. Two faint scars mark him from the bullying he survived as a child, one cutting through his left eyebrow and the other tracing his left cheek.

When riding with the gang he pulls on a pale jacket and matching trousers, dark fingerless gloves, and a dark mask over his face. In his Renjaku High uniform he leaves the gakuran open, exposing a plain long sleeved shirt with a dark collar beneath it.

Personality

Beneath the delinquent exterior, Raiya is gentle natured, a boy who was exploited when he was small and never forgot who lifted him out of it. His devotion to Unji runs deep, rooted in gratitude for being rescued and for being accepted exactly as he is when the rest of the world cast him aside. That loyalty makes him willing to do whatever a task demands, violence included, and his thoughtful, earnest streak is why Unji leans on him to command the others when the boss is away.

The wounds of his childhood have not fully closed. When the Fairy-Tale Card prods at the old pain of being treated as an outcast, Raiya buckles under the yokai's influence and is turned against the very leader he reveres.

History

Tormented as a child, Raiya was pulled out of his suffering by Unji Zuma, and the gratitude he felt, paired with admiration for how Unji looked after struggling teens, led him to swear himself to the gang. Over time Unji came to regard him as his most dependable ally, even handing him the duty of watching over a female member who had been caught reaching for dangerous drugs.

When Unji acquired a cursed diorama that swallowed one of the gang into its inner world, Raiya offered to go in next, since the previous captive, Daiki Hakono, had managed to escape. Unji refused him, choosing to enter himself using a golden ball given to him by a mysterious man. After a week passed with no sign of his leader, Raiya and the others tried to shove a reluctant Daiki back inside to trade places.

The pursuit of Daiki brought the gang into contact with Momo and Okarun, and when Okarun transformed into a shape echoing Unji's powers, Raiya agreed to lead the pair to the hideout, though he insisted Daiki come along. Inside, an accident sent Momo into the diorama, and Okarun deduced the cursed object worked like a board game meant to be completed from within. Raiya rallied the whole school to enter and clear it, refusing to wait for a spirit medium. After helping Momo and Unji finish the final stage, he watched the Fairy-Tale Card break free, and the yokai's words about his outcast past brainwashed him into striking Unji, which dragged Unji under the card's control as well. Once Rin used Mai's gravity powers to lift the captives clear of the collapsing world, Raiya found Unji freed but not breathing, and later saw the Fairy-Tale Card destroyed.

In the aftermath he and the gang visited the hospitalized Unji, then escorted him to Kami High seeking a cure for the lingering curses. Joining the trip to Shimane, Raiya carried the immobilized Daiki on his back, opened up about his past, and during the Kito Family's airborne ambush was overpowered by Juichi. When the Typhoon Human tore into the plane, he shielded Daiki and secured oxygen masks, and afterward helped the boy reach the cockpit so Daiki could pilot them to safety. At Izumo Taisha, a priest warned of a stolen relic, and Raiya was left to wait at the shrine with Unji and Daiki.
