Overview

Outwardly the Danmara is a wooden box that lifts open at the top to reveal a diorama within. A bull's head encircled by a ring decorates the front of the lid, and ornamental patterning runs along the sides. Its purpose was to lock away the Fairy-Tale Card, but the captive yokai conjured a realm inside and turned the container into a portal, so contact alone transports a person into his domain. It is also nicknamed the Diorama.

Function

A European sorcerer first sealed the world's evils into a deck of Japanese playing cards and shut the resulting Fairy-Tale Card inside the trunk. Unable to undo the seals himself, the yokai lured humans in by fashioning an interior world and converting the box into a doorway that swallowed anyone who touched it. Eating the food grown inside binds a person to the realm, and that world collapses if the Fairy-Tale Card ever leaves it.

Notable Users

An antique dealer once sold the trunk to a father buying a birthday gift for his son, Daiki Hakono, who was pulled inside and survived for years on the world's candy. After the yokai expelled him, the trunk passed to gang leader Unji Zuma, then drew Saint-Germain's interest. During the Danmara Arc, Momo, Okarun, Turbo Granny, and others were dragged in, and Rin used Mai's gravity power to lift the captives free as the Fairy-Tale Card escaped with Unji's body. Once the yokai was beaten, Seiko claimed the trunk and later gave it to the collector Payase.
