Summary

On the train to Jiji's village, a card game ends and Okarun turns jealous watching Momo enjoy Jiji's company over his snacks. When she asks what's bothering him, his blurted reply about his kintama makes her laugh, and Jiji mistakes it for a dirty joke. Trying to win her focus back, Okarun brings up the tsuchinoko, but the topic only hands the spotlight to Jiji, who mentions a shrine to it nearby. The two soon fall into easy conversation, and Jiji asks to call Okarun a friend since he is close to Momo; Okarun cannot refuse and quietly wonders why disliking him is so hard. At the village Momo marvels at the hot springs, which Jiji links to his father's volcano studies, the reason they relocated, and he assures her the volcano has slept for around 200 years. The group climbs a long staircase up to the Enjoji residence, where Momo feels nothing strange and proposes resting. Sprawled outside, Okarun notices shadowy shapes among the trees but shrugs them off; they turn out to be people quietly observing the three.
