Summary

Stepping inside to find Okarun and Jiji battered by the Kito Family, Momo fends off the attackers as they swarm her, but the head Kito member's blow sends her crashing into the hidden room. There the matriarch explains that the family has long left offerings to the Tsuchinoko across generations so the local volcano stays dormant, with the dwelling itself serving as an altar. The revelation horrifies Momo as she grasps that Jiji's parents were sacrifices too. When the woman remarks how convenient it is that three offerings stand ready for the hungry Tsuchinoko, Momo feels her feet sinking into the floor and takes in the warped interior of the room around her.
