Summary

Jiji spots the malevolent presence ahead and notices that both Momo and Okarun have steadied. As the spirit swings its gaze toward the trio, Turbo Granny shouts a warning never to meet its eyes, explaining this is the Evil Eye, an entity that pushes its victims toward taking their own lives, a force now neutralizing the suicidal waves the Tsuchinoko emits. While the two powers deadlock, Okarun seizes the gap and hurls himself at the worm to sever its head, but the Tsuchinoko simply sprouts a new one and resumes its rampage. As he and Momo flee, Jiji presses the Evil Eye about whether it caused his parents' deaths. The spirit locks eyes with him and floods his mind with memories: a child given over for sacrifice, his futile effort to save a boy the Kito clan meant to offer generations earlier, and the vow of revenge that turned him into the Evil Eye.

Key Events

By matching his own deadly output against the Great Serpent's, the Evil Eye restores Momo and Okarun to their senses. Turbo Granny cries out against meeting the spirit's stare, since it shatters the sanity of anyone who does. Okarun tears the worm's head off with his power, only for it to grow back. The Evil Eye then coils around Jiji and forces a vision upon him: a youngster imprisoned by the Kito clan as the volcano's earliest offering, denied any chance to play alongside the village kids. That boy died and lingered as a ghost, visible solely to the child whose family dwelled atop the altar. His haunting drove those parents to kill themselves, after which Naki chose to entomb him within the house. Powerless to free the bound boy, the spirit's loathing for the Kitos hardens into a wish to slay them, and he fuses with the child while demanding to be seen.
