Appearance

Golden eyes and full lips mark this tall, powerfully built Arrancar, whose dark, bald head is ridged with a row of bony spikes that mimic a Mohawk. Skull earrings and a thick bony collar round out a look often compared to a witch doctor. Below each eye run four thin lines, every one capped by a dot like an exclamation point, while three small triangles brand his chin as his estigma. A mandarin-collared jacket conceals his rank tattoo, worn over a standard hakama and shoes resembling training footwear, and his Hollow hole sits at his right breast.

Personality

Composed and meditative by nature, Zommari keeps a serene mind and often withdraws to his chamber to reflect. Beneath that calm burns a deep contempt for Soul Reapers, whom he despises for cutting down Hollows out of what he sees as sheer arrogance, and he vows to slay every one he meets. Toward Aizen his devotion is absolute, to the point of shouting praise for his master with his dying breath. His released power feeds a grandiose conviction that all things bow to a rightful ruler, yet that same pride betrays him: certain of his own superiority, he treats Byakuya as an equal and never truly tests him.

History

Zommari attended Aizen's council as Ichigo Kurosaki and his companions breached Hueco Mundo. He was meditating when word reached him of Aaroniero Arruruerie's death, and he went to the scene meaning to finish off the gravely wounded Rukia Kuchiki, only for Byakuya Kuchiki to bar his way. Boasting that his Sonido outpaced every Espada, Zommari split into lifelike duplicates with Gemelos Sonido, yet Byakuya read the trick at once and struck him down again and again, dismissing any notion that the two stood as equals.

Stung, Zommari released his Resurreccion, Brujeria, cloaking his body in dozens of open eyes. Its power, Amor, claimed dominion over anything his gaze fixed upon, branding each target with a sun-shaped mark; he seized Byakuya's limbs one at a time, and the captain calmly severed his own tendons to deny him control. When Zommari commandeered Rukia and pressed her blade to her throat to force a surrender, Byakuya bound her with Kido and loosed his Bankai. Zommari sheltered inside El Embrion, a defensive sphere that weathered the storm of blades, then reached out once more for his foe. Byakuya blocked the gaze with a barrier, appeared at his neck, and, after enduring a furious tirade about the Reapers' supposed right to slaughter Hollows, cut him down for daring to bloody his pride with a blunted blade. Zommari perished still crying out his adoration for Aizen.
