Meryl Hope

Character

Meryl Hope forecasts weather for BCD News out of Washington State, a job that puts an American face on the closing act of My Hero Academia. Polished on camera and blunt off it, she is remembered less for storm charts than for refusing to accept her government's surrender to All For One.

Appearance

Light blonde hair falls to her shoulders, framing thick brows and blue eyes set in a dark-skinned face. Her height reads as ordinary; her figure does not.

White dominates her wardrobe, a thigh-length dress paired with shoes in the same shade, plus a watch on her left wrist. Manga panels add dark polish on her nails.

Personality

On air she is a professional, compressing research she does herself into tidy segments and covering conditions well past American borders.

Away from that register she does not soften. When the United States government bends to All For One, Meryl says plainly that she will not fold, and she holds up a sign reading NO AFO to make sure the point lands.

History

Meryl arrives during the Final War, first in Chapter 374 and, in animated form, in Episode 153. Her introduction frames the endgame in meteorological terms, asking whether a single man's power can tip a superpowered society into chaos the way a butterfly's wingbeat is said to seed a distant hurricane.

She returns across later chapters of that arc and again in the eighth anime season. Mimi Maihane voices her in Japanese, Cassie Ewulu in English; Maihane also performs Mihaera.
