Personality

Despite being a bird, Chuntaro shows real intelligence along with courage and devotion. He frequently tries to lift Zenitsu's spirits when the swordsman loses his nerve, and he refuses to abandon him even in dangerous places such as Mount Natagumo. He is also openly sentimental, growing visibly happy when Tanjiro first understands him and welling up with tears after the fight against the Spider Demon. Because he communicates only through chirps, pecks, and gestures, he relied on Tanjiro early on to pass his feelings along to a clueless Zenitsu.

History

Chuntaro earned his place by passing the Kasugai Crow test after demons killed his family. He was later paired with Zenitsu once the young man cleared the Final Selection and joined the Corps, a result that puzzled Zenitsu since everyone else received a crow. Over the arcs that follow, Chuntaro flies to fetch Shinobu Kocho when Zenitsu lies poisoned on Mount Natagumo, and during the Stone Hashira's training he delivers the painful letter reporting Jigoro Kuwajima's death. Across the story the bond between bird and slayer steadily deepens.
