Appearance

Kozo is short and slim, with neck-length black hair that spikes toward the ends and hands marked by visible blisters from his work. Like every resident of the village, he conceals his face behind a Hyottoko mask, and dresses in a long pale shirt, a black haori, and brown trousers.

Without the mask, he has a long narrow face with thick teardrop-shaped brows matching the mask itself, narrow eyes, and a birthmark beneath his right eye.

Personality

Kozo is a gentle, soft-spoken man who cares deeply for others. He understands the volatile Hotaru Haganezuka and continues to shield him from Gyokko even while gravely wounded, and he frets over Muichiro, growing frantic when the Hashira collapses from demon poison.

His passion for his swords runs nearly as hot as Hotaru's, however. When Inosuke deliberately chips the two blades Kozo had forged for him, the smith is overcome with fury and has to be restrained to keep him from attacking.

History

Living among the village smiths, Kozo crafts Nichirin Swords for the Corps. At twenty-five he met a woman two years younger named En, fell for her at once, and later married her.

During the rehabilitation arc he delivers new blades to the Butterfly Mansion and is enraged when Inosuke ruins his work. In the Swordsmith Village arc, now serving Muichiro, he is hunted by Gyokko's fish demons and saved by the Mist Hashira. He and Kotetsu are forced to witness Gyokko's gruesome display of mutilated smiths, and Kozo is wounded shielding the boy before Muichiro rescues them both. After the village attack he relocates to Muichiro's home as his personal smith, and following Muzan's defeat he visits the recovering Tanjiro daily until he wakes.
